A few words from Elicia Wusersching, Youth Worker
“I am one of the youth pastors at HumeRidge, working alongside Ross Savill & a team of approximately 40 volunteer youth leaders. Together we seek to connect young people with God through a relational ministry with teenage youth.
I am very passionate about discipleship - supporting and encouraging leaders to grow, and equipping them to lead other young people to Christ. I particularly work with the girls to facilitate mentoring partnerships, and run several spiritual retreats throughout the year.
While relationship building is the philosophy of how youth ministry happens, we run programs that provide a setting for this to happen. Friday night youth programs operate for students in grades 7-12, and these are primarily activity based. The purpose of these evenings is to give young people the opportunity to hang out with one another, and invite their non-Christian friends to something that is safe and non-threatening. In this setting we are upfront about our passion for God and our commitment to serve him in this way, and invite young people to explore things for themselves.
On Sunday mornings Ross & myself run high school small group bible studies during the 9am church service, and we also co-ordinate and run evening services which have a particular youth and family focus. During the week we also run small groups for young adults in the 17-25 age bracket.
Where I have time I love to get involved in other areas of ministry including being part of a music team, and assisting to promote and facilitate mission work. I also have a secondary role just 6 hours a week at a local primary school where I work alongside upper primary girls one-on-one who are having personal or social difficulties, and also run social development classes with grades 5-7.”
